An FPS objective defense game where a bloodthirsty cat must defend its home from a world-ending horde of invading rodents.

Core Gameplay Loop

The player spawns in a room of the house with a gun, wave counter, and enemies on their way. As they mow down enemies, they gain points that can be spent in the skills menu to purchase upgrades to either movement, range, or melee. Across three levels, the player must protect a core objective, requiring all enemies to be defeated before its durability reaches 0. Some abilities have pre-requisites that come from other branches or earlier upgrades. The player has to keep on their toes, as enemies will shoot back at the player on their way to the objective. If the player or the objective runs out of HP, it's game over.

Struggles and Takeaways

This was one of my first Unity projects that I had worked on to some form of completion. Many of my struggles were getting used to Unity and figuring out where to invest the most of my time to maximize the result. There were a few hiccups early on with making a functioning skill tree that threw a wrench into my plans.

The biggest takeaway that I have from this project is to be unafraid of seeking help from others and generating discussion for solutions to plans. I had been too shy and insecure in the past about presenting my flaws to others, but I have learned that it is better to be proud of one's willingness to learn than to be too ignorant to admit that you don't know something. I strive to learn as much as I can from the environment around me and I hope to implement that mindset wherever I go.
